Hi! It’s nice to meet you.
I’m Sarah- A designer, photographer and software engineer currently in the greater Seattle area. I am passionate about making the world a more accessible, inclusive place.
I do my best work in collaborative environments — I do that through setting clear expectations, being highly organized, and making sure that every voice on the team is heard. I am always looking for new chances to grow and learn — When approaching a problem, I love to stay curious and put in the time to uncover customer needs. This aspect of experience design is what inspired me to build upon my existing degree in visual communications and pursue this career path in the first place.
As a former engineer turned designer, I’m passionate about building bridges between these disciplines to partner customer centered solutions with feasible, scalable products. I believe the strongest solutions partner these areas of focus together.
Before designing for a living, I was a software engineer with Nordstrom for three years. I helped build front-end feature updates, collected business analytics, and partnered with design and research teams to help realize their vision. I also had the opportunity to develop new internal applications that enriched the lives of stylists across Nordstrom. During that time I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the balance of user needs, business needs, and overall feasibility constraints.
Prior to my time as an engineer, I was a technical support lead in a large photography studio, and a genius administrator at Apple. I have years of first hand experience working with customers and engineers to reveal customer pain points, discover education opportunities, and collect feedback from customers — empathy driven customer service is built into my DNA.
I have also been recognized as a “culture keeper” in previous roles. In every role I have had the opportunity to be a part of, I have brought positivity and a hard work ethic to create a great working environment and develop friendships within teams while we create great solutions.
I appreciate the importance of a healthy work/life balance — So when I’m not working, you can find me on the soccer field, playing guitar, with my camera, traveling whenever I can, or coaching one of my son’s various sports teams.
